What is BEing Human about:

What is BEing Human?

BEing Human is where I reveal the messy, raw, and deeply human truths about trust, leadership, and connection - what it takes to show up authentically in life and work.

Right now, I’m taking readers behind the scenes of my third book on trust.

Subscribers get access to live conversations every quarter about personal growth, leadership that doesn’t feel hollow, and navigating those moments when everything shifts.

Once a month, I share my Human Picks, a curated mix of books, podcasts, and ideas that challenge me, push me, and remind me why we do this work.

Where’d the name “BEing Human” come from?

It’s rooted in something I’ve believed for years: being human is not just a state of existence; it’s a raw, unpolished practice of connection, trust, and courage.

The idea came to me while navigating my path - through sobriety, leadership, and redefining success and authenticity. Somewhere in the chaos, I realized that human work isn’t about perfection or strategy; it’s about embracing the struggle and finding strength in our vulnerability. That’s the epic story we all live, whether we realize it or not.

The topics I’ll be diving into this year

All the themes I’m exploring in my next book and beyond:

  • Trust—how it’s built, broken, and rebuilt

  • Leadership in a world craving authenticity and connection

  • The intersection of vulnerability and power in human relationships

  • Emotional sobriety - what it means to show up fully present, both personally and professionally

  • The psychology of connection - why we crave it, why we fear it, and how we navigate it

  • Mindfulness as a tool for building trust—within ourselves and with others

  • The link between trust and recovery - whether from addiction, betrayal, or loss

  • Navigating transitions - new job, career, leadership shifts, and life’s inevitable reinventions

  • The evolution of how we connect in work, relationships, and community

  • Human-to-human connection - beyond the buzzword, into its deeper truth

Other topics:

  • The intersection of leadership and technology: using innovation to enhance, not replace, human connection

  • Building and nurturing a team: Creating Cultures of trust, collaboration, and shared purpose

  • The challenges of remote and hybrid leadership: fostering connection and accountability in a digital world

  • Technology for mindfulness and productivity: the best apps and software to help you stay grounded, focused, and aligned with your goals

  • Leadership transitions: navigating the shift from individual contributor to team leader with clarity and confidence

Why do I do paid subscriptions?

Why do I offer paid subscriptions?

I understand that not everyone agrees with putting content behind a paywall. Let me explain why I’ve chosen to do this.

For over a decade, I’ve shared the majority of my work for free: books, podcasts, articles, social posts, and more. That work has been—and will continue to be—available to anyone who needs it. But I’ve learned something along the way: my time, effort, and energy have value, and the depth of what I share here deserves a space that reflects that.

I spend countless hours crafting this newsletter and my other work. It’s personal, vulnerable, and often a real-time exploration of the ideas that matter most to me: trust, connection, leadership, sobriety, and what it truly means to be human. A paywall allows me to share more freely, knowing that the people here are intentional about being part of this community.

This isn’t about keeping people out—it’s about creating a space that actually means something. If cost is a real barrier, I’ve got you. I offer scholarships on an honor system—no hoops, no guilt. Just reach out, and we’ll make it happen.

There’s another reason for the paywall: protection. Not just for me, but for all of us. The internet is loud, chaotic, and full of drive-by opinions from people who have no skin in the game. I want this space to be different. A place where conversations can go deeper, where honesty isn’t met with trolls or bad-faith arguments. The paywall isn’t a wall - it’s a filter. It keeps the signal strong and the noise out.

Ultimately, this is about building something intentional - a place where trust, connection, and thoughtful conversations can thrive. That’s worth protecting and investing in.

What paid subscribers get.

  • Access to all posts

  • The ability to comment

  • Invites to occasional hangouts and Zoom calls

  • Discounts on my courses and offers

I don’t have a hard-and-fast rule for how much content stays free and how much goes behind the paywall—it’s roughly 25% free and 75% paid. But sometimes, I put something out there for everyone because it feels too important to keep contained. Reflections on leadership, mindfulness, sobriety, and trust reach beyond the individual and tap into something bigger. They need to be out in the world with no barriers or limits.

To those of you who pay for a subscription, thank you. Your support means everything. It allows me to pour time, energy, and care into this space, and I don’t take that for granted for a second.
